Juneteenth

A poem

America, land of the free
Yeah, right
More than 150 years later
And people who look like
Me
We
We’re still asking are we really free?

We’re still fighting for our rights
Fighting to live
How much is a Black life?
Free? $20?
Lynchings
Shootings
Beatings
Where’s the justice? Or is it just us…
For us?

Juneteenth is for celebration
Celebrating freedom from slavery
But what’s tomorrow for
If it’s back to business as usual
With no Justice
And no peace?
