I have a Patreon!

I have made a Patreon for Rae’s Violet Words. It combines both my creative writing and my art, which can be found here.

If you don’t know how Patreon works, basically it’s a monthly thing split into tiers that you can choose from depending on the content you want. This can be pretty much anything from exclusive sneak peeks of new content to coloring pages.

RVWJC: Thinking Like a Journalist

In the past 12 weeks(?), I’ve lost count, I have learned to think more and more like a journalist in every aspect of my life. This is especially applicable when it comes to my social media and social life in general.

I used to allow my shyness and anxiety to hold me back from a lot of potential opportunities to connect with others and get to know them better. I was able to do that for so long, but it has cost me in ways I’ll explain later.

The RVWJC: My First Week as a Transfer

Welp, school is back in session. You know what that means: exams, quizzes, new people, lots of reading, new stressors. I started my junior year as a transfer student at UNT this week, and I was both very ready and not ready at all.

I spent 2 days before the first class day finding my way around and researching what I needed to know about dining, the campus layout, where my classes would be, and organizing my room. The campus is so big, and I have to walk everywhere, but at least I’m kind of staying in shape! The night before my first day, I calmed myself with episodes of Broad City and 90 Day Fiancé.

The Most Writing I’ve Ever Done

I took 2 writing intensive classes this spring semester, but that was only the tip of my iceberg. Each task, both inside and outside of class, provided me the growth I didn’t know I needed. And for that… I’m grateful.

8 essays in a 16-week semester plus pre-writing activities every week. 90 percent of those essays were about Oedipus Rex. Add that to writing assignments for 3 other classes and I was drowning! It was the most writing I’d ever have to endure. Talk about stresssssed. Haha…what a surprise I was in for.

My Last Year at Community College

My dreams are coming true! But not without hard work and determination. A few months ago, I started an internship as a writer for the college website College Xpress.

Blank notebook with phone and laptop

I sent my first post, “5 Things I Learned My Last Year at Community College,” in March. My editor loved the idea, and apparently, she wasn’t the only one. A month later, she sent me an email that the editorial team would like to feature my article in the magazine, Transfer Colleges and Universities, later this year! I was floored.

So that’s it! My first blog post for my internship, soon to be published in a national magazine, is now available in blog form. I am so excited to share this with everyone I know because it’s a milestone in my career path toward print journalism. Link below!!
